Pricing and important information

Black Diamond Tannery offers both crust and finished leather options for your convenience. Crust leather which has been tanned, but not finished is often referred to as being "in the crust." Our crust tannage results in soft, mellow hides receptive to excellent color variety to allow for finishing at a later date.

Our price for contract tanning is based upon the measurement of the skin in centimeters measured at the widest point in the belly after crust tanning or dyeing to your specified color choice, and final polishing or glazing.

To find the approximate finished size of your skin, multiply the length in feet by 6 to get the approximate width in centimeters. For example: A 7 foot skin x 6 = 42 cm in size when finished.

Prices are as follows:

7.5’ and under:  $5.50 cm

• On a minimum of 6 skins…

  • Minimum 3 skins/color; exception for Black and Brown Matte, no minimum

• If less than 6 skins:

  • 1-2 skins plus 25% at $6.80 cm

  • 3-5 skins plus 15% at $6.30 cm

• Hornback plus $1.00/cm

Over 7.5’:  $6.50 cm

• On a minimum of 6 skins…

  • Minimum 3 skins/color; exception Black and Brown Matte, no minimum

• If less than 6 skins:

  • 1-2 skins plus 25% $8.10 cm

  • 3-5 skins plus 15% $7.45 cm

• Hornback plus $1.00/cm

All hides that are tanned at Black Diamond Tannery receive the same attention to detail as hides destined for luxury products produced globally. The following services are standard when processing all contract tanning:

• Soaking (to cleanse)

• Liming (to descale)

• Deliming (to raise the acidity)

• Pickling (to remove bone)

• Chrome tanning (to convert from organic to inorganic)

• Shaving (to degrease & thin out leather)

• Drum Dyeing

• Drying (either by hang-drying or by forced air)

• Dry cleaning (to remove excess grease)

• Coloring

• Shaving

• Finishing (to apply desired look and feel)

READ CAREFULLY – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

WE MUST RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WITH YOUR SKIN(S):

• Customer's Name

• Complete physical shipping address, We cannot ship to P.O. box

• Phone Number

• CITES TAG NUMBER FOR EACH SKIN (found on tail tag)

• Completed Crust/Color form

• Deposit Payment (Check or Credit Card Information)

Skins received without this information will not begin the tanning process and owner may incur fees for incomplete documentation. Skins will be held for one business week from delivery date before being return at the expense of the skin's owner. 

All tanning, coloring, and finishing is done at the owner's risk. Skins may contain flaws that are not visible until tanning process is complete.

Returning Your Finished Skins

Black Diamond Tannery averages four months to complete the tanning process, but may vary depending on the size of your skin and the finishing options. Once your skins are finished we will notify you and to confirm the return shipping address or schedule pick up. 

If deposit is received in the form of a check or cashier’s check/money order, Black Diamond Tannery will bill for the final balance due, and customer will be responsible for arranging payment before skins are shipped.

If deposit was paid by credit card,  Black Diamond Tannery will charge same card for the balance remaining when skins are complete unless other payment arrangements have been made in advance.
